Dundee Success at Scottish National Carpet Bowls Championships
Dundee Bowlers with a Disability returned from Scottish Disability Sport's National Carpet Bowls Championships held in Inverness. Tricia Kirk, who bowls in the section for people who play from a wheelchair, returned as Scottish Champion. Tricia won the title for a second year running in a closely fought battle against David Thomson from Fife, who has previously won this title 6 times. The final between these excellent bowlers was said to be one of the best finals ever held for this section.
Alec Wright who bowls in the male section for people with a Learning Disability was victorious in his battle against Douglas Ritchie, South Lanarkshire. Alec's course to the final was not an easy one narrowly beating Ian Urquhart from Aberdeen in a tense 17-15 Quarter Final. In the final, Alec's confidence grew and he managed to secure the title with a convincing win of 21-5.
Dundee had a team of 7 Bowlers at this years championships.
It was noted by the event organisers that Dundee are one of the local areas who have had great development of bowls over the past 5 years
