Discovery Games Equestrian Event
Dundee City Disability Sport in Partnership with The Brae, Riding for the Disabled ran the Handy Pony Event for people with a Disability.
24 riders completed a handy pony course and also a stable management exercise.
3 riding for the disabled centre's took part
7 from Glenfarg RDA, 1 from Inverarity and 16 riders from the Brae.
They will all received a rosette, medal and certificate for completing the course /exercise.
The Brae and Dundee Disability Sport are delighted that the Equestrian discipline is taking part, for the first time in this years Discovery games.
The Brae wanted their riders to have the opportunity to take part in a competitive environment but one that focus's on the fun element.
Discovery Games gave an excellent opportunity to some of our riders to experience being part of a completion, learning something new, and of course the all important part receiving reward for a job well done.
Mary Sneddon the centre manager said "I am absolutely delighted that we are taking part in the Discovery Games, and certainly see it as a yearly event for the Brae, and hopefully grow in terms of numbers and levels of riding.
It has taken us some weeks not to just train our riders but also our beloved horses. Part of the course involves opening a gate (whilst still on a horse).
This stretch of movement is sometimes difficult due the physical disability of the rider. So the horses have been trained in aiding the rider and help push the gate with their nose-
its all great fun for everyone involved. These riders have been greatly supported and encouraged by the BEST volunteers anywhere".
The Brae have around 100 volunteers , who without them we wouldn't be able to provide the fantastic service that we do, but we need more.
Dundee City Disability Sport are delighted that this event went so well and all the Riders and helpers had a great day. Dundee City Disability Sport certainly hopes that this event will be included in future Discovery Games.
