DCDS Minibus Launch

19 June 2009

Dundee City Disability Sport has launched an appeal for a new mini bus to replace their 13 year old bus which is now proving difficult for its purpose.

The bus is in use every day of the week ferrying athletes to groups and activities as well as teams to national disability sporting events across the country.

Dundee City Council leisure, arts and communities convener Bob Duncan said "A new mini bus for Dundee City Disability Sport is essential for them so that they can continue the great work that they do for disabled athletes. At the moment we are transporting our top bowler, Trisha Kirk to squad training for selection to the Scottish Team competing at the Bowling International Test Match in Kirkcaldy in June."

Eileen Ramsay, chair of DCDS said "Dundee City Disability Sport is a voluntary organisation approaching its 30th year with a proud reputation of delivering sport for people with a disability and is appealing to anyone who can assist them in reaching their target of 40K to allow them to purchase a fully adapted mini bus.

"The association works very closely with Dundee City Council disability sports officer to ensure that there is a Dundee team represented at all national disability sport events and with a new bus we would be able to transport more participants and field bigger teams at disability sports events.

"During the year we field teams to represent Dundee at 12 national events ranging from athletics to swimming, football to powerlifting and our affiliated clubs also request the use of the mini bus to take club teams to their national sports championships.

"We are looking at trust funds and grant applications being submitted and also hope that some local businesses may offer some financial assistance" she added.

If anyone would like to support the DCDS mini bus appeal please get in touch with Gordon Quinton, secretary on (01382) 432346.
