DCDS Celebrates 25th Anniversary Year.
DCDS celebrated its 25 Anniversary Year during 2006/07. These celebrations started with a week of activities, from 11 - 15 September 2006. This week of activities kicked off with a challenge bowling match between bowlers with a disability and DCDS management committee members, the bowlers with a disability thrashed the management committee quite convincingly. The chairperson of DCDS announced that the event will be held each year, so the management committee better start practicing now. During this week children from St Johns High School took part in Canadian canoeing at Monikie Park. This was a great day out for all concerned and thanks go to Bruce from Ancrum for all the help and tuition he gave.
Scottish Disability Sport approached DCDS and asked if we would host the National Football Championships for people with a disability, DCDS were delighted to host this event at Downfield Pavilion on Wednesday 13 September 2006. Teams from all over Scotland came to Dundee and played football in true sportsmanship style. The management committee wish to thanks all people concerned with the event SDS, Staff at Downfield Pavilion, Disability Sports Officers and all volunteers on the day.
DCDS held the 9th Discovery Games over the weekend of 16 & 17 September 2006. This is DCDS flagship event, held annually and firmly on the calendar of events. Discovery Games has the following sports, Athletics, Swimming, Carpet Bowls, Boccia, Motor Activities and Powerlifting. all events take place in Leisure and Communities Sports Centres across the city. Teams come from all over Scotland. The event has in the past been called "The friendly Games". Teams not only compete for Gold Silver or Bronze medals they also have the opportunity of being awarded the "Discovery Quaich" this was presented to DCDS by Soroptomists International Dundee in 2004.
